Parcel Tax Exemption Information

Prev | Top | Next
Tue, Jun. 15, 2010
On May 5, 2009, voters in the Cupertino Union School District approved a local elementary student achievement measure to help ensure reliable funding to maintain quality education.

The $125 parcel tax generates an additional $4.4 million in revenue annually for six years. These vital funds will be used to maintain the high-quality education and help to offset the drastic state budget cuts to education.

The deadline of June 15 for applying for a parcel tax exemption has passed.

We are in the process of submitting all verified applications received to the county tax collector for processing. If you are eligible and were not able to file for an exemption for this year, you may apply for a refund after your 2010-2011 tax bill has been paid in full.

Applications for refunds will be available at the Cupertino Union School District office located at 10301 Vista Drive in Cupertino beginning January 1, 2011.

If you have any questions please contact Jeremy Nishihara at (408) 252-3000, Extension 323.

'Their Future Is Now!' Fundraising Campaign

Prev | Top | Next
Sat, May. 15, 2010
We did it!  We, as a community, united to preserve quality education by saving 115 kindergarten thru eighth grade teachers and restoring 20:1 class size ratio in grades 1-3.  We achieved this through a combination of the “Their Future is Now!” campaign and the Cupertino Union School District employee organizations’ agreement to a salary reduction through furlough days.

The CUSD registration process currently underway highlights a significant increase in enrollment.  The exact enrollment total will not be finalized until the start of the 2010-2011 school year, thus the full cost of delivering our programs cannot be defined until that time.  Even in light of the cost increases from enrollment growth, the district has committed to retain “pink slipped” teachers in grades K-8 and fully restore 20:1 class size ratios in grades 1 through 3.

Funds raised through “Their Future Is Now!” will enable the district to retain “pink slipped” teachers in grades K-8 and preserve the 20:1 class size ratio in grades 1 through 3 for the 2010-2011 school year.  Presently, the campaign has raised nearly $2.25 million and corporate matching funds continue to come in.  All the funds will be allocated from CEEF according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 15, 2010.

Once again, the goal of saving 115 K-8 teachers and restoring the desired 20:1 class size ratio in grades 1 through 3 within the Cupertino Union School District has become a reality. This achievement was made possible through the contributions from the community, the tireless efforts of volunteers, the support of the CUSD Board of Education and the District in applying a creative solution to the budget deficit, the sacrifice of the employees in accepting a pay reduction via furloughs, and stability created by CEEF in guaranteeing $2 million against the endowment to prevent “pink slip” actions.

Cupertino Union School District now stands as a beacon of light and possibility for districts throughout the region still struggling to navigate the State’s budget cuts.  Together, we accomplished what many considered impossible.  This has been a uniting experience for our entire community and we thank all who have been a part of this effort.
