Your Child's Teacher
Because this two-way immersion program has a student population of native Mandarin speakers, native English speakers, and bilingual students, the teachers have two types of credential requirements. Some of our teachers are working to complete the additional certificate in addition to their multiple subject credentials.
Bilingual/Biliterate teachers must hold the following credential or be enrolled in a University teacher-credentialing program for the following credential/certificate:
Multiple Subject credential with Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) emphasis or an equivalent BCLAD certificate
Specifically this credential/certificate authorizes instruction in:
- English Language Development in preschool, K-12, and adults,
- Specially Designed Academic Instruction delivered in English (SDAIE) in the subjects and grade levels authorized by the prerequisite credential, and
- Instruction for primary (targeted) language development and content instruction delivered in the primary (targeted) language in the subjects and grade levels authorized by the prerequisite credential.
Teachers who are teaching English-only must hold or be enrolled in a program to complete the multiple subject credential with the following emphasis or an equivalent to the CLAD:
Multiple Subject Credential with emphasis on Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) or certificate on top of the regular credential
This credential/certificate authorizes instruction to individuals for whom English is a second language:
- English Language Development in Pre K-grade 12, and adults, and
- Specially Designed Academic Instruction Delivered in English (SDAIE) in the subjects and grade levels authorized by the prerequisite credential.
