WELCOME
TO CUSD!
THE MISSION OF THE CUPERTINO
UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT IS TO PROVIDE A CHILD-CENTERED ENVIRONMENT THAT
CULTIVATES CHARACTER, FOSTERS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE, AND EMBRACES DIVERSITY.
DISTRICT FAMILIES, COMMUNITY, AND STAFF JOIN AS PARTNERS TO DEVELOP CREATIVE,
EXEMPLARY LEARNERS WITH THE SKILLS AND ENTHUSIASM TO CONTRIBUTE TO A CONSTANTLY
CHANGING GLOBAL SOCIETY.
The Cupertino Union School
District, with state and national recognition for the excellence of its
schools, serves 17,500 students—representing 48 different
languages—in a 26-square mile area that includes the city of Cupertino
and portions of five other cities in California's Silicon Valley. Our children attend twenty elementary
schools and five middle schools.
Instructionally, the district
provides a comprehensive array of integrated, school-based services designed to
meet the needs of all students, including extended learning, special education,
and English Language Development programs. All our schools are part of the
school-based coordination program to identify and direct resources to support
efforts that have a positive impact on student learning.
Cupertino is committed to
developing an inclusive, caring educational community in which each individual
has an equal opportunity to achieve his or her potential. Our district serves a richly diverse
student population—70% Asian (includes Indian subcontinent), 23% White,
5% Hispanic, 1% Black, and 1% Filipino.
Historically, district test scores
have been high, placing Cupertino among the premier public school districts in
the state. The community has high
expectations for its children and the degree of parent involvement is high. In response to the increasing need for quality, affordable child care, the district provides before and after school student
care programs on a space available basis at all elementary schools in
partnership with licensed providers.
Cupertino is nationally recognized
for leadership in the innovative application of technology to enrich student
learning. The district has adopted
a comprehensive Instructional Technology Plan designed to fully integrate
technology into the curriculum.
The plan focuses on equitable access for all learners (students and
adults), transparent connectivity among all learners, and learner-focused
training and support.
The district is proud of its
tradition of providing students with the social and academic skills needed to
prepare them for life as responsible, productive citizens of the twenty-first
century and has developed a long-range strategic plan that shape the district's
future. Believing that the most
significant variable in the delivery of services to our students is the quality
of our human resources, a major goal of the strategic plan is to attract,
retain, and develop a competent, caring, and effective staff.
